So, you think you can’t write?

It’s true, content creation really isn’t for everyone. But if your lack of content (or poor content) is making you think “my email marketing is dead” then it’s really high time you did something about it. Today we’ll take you through the basic principles of creating content that is so irresistible you’ll cry. Okay you probably won’t cry, but it’ll be great, I promise.

First Rule – get something on the page

You know that classic image of someone staring at a blank document? Yeah that shouldn’t be you. Just write. Start somewhere and go for it, don’t spend hours labouring over your first words – you can edit it all later.

Second Rule – find your Mr X

It’s easy to think you’re writing to a huge open faceless audience, and it’s really difficult! So construct a target audience in your mind and a person that you’re writing to. This has the bonus of actually making your content a whole lot more interesting!

Third Rule – Please

Now you’ve found your Mr X (let’s call him Dave), you need to write to him and for him. After all, that’s the point of creating him! Don’t worry; you won’t end up with an imaginary friend… unless you want to.

Fourth Rule – Clear it up

With each sentence you should be urging the reader to move on to the next. Not only this but as an individual, each should make sense. Be clear in how you write. Email marketing is tricky because you want to get to the point as soon as possible; but clarity is more important.

Still think your email marketing is dead after this? Don’t worry, we’ll be back next week with more helpful hints! Remember to keep at it guys!
